One Lincoln Park Retirement Community celebrates their 40th anniversary in Dayton, OH

40 Years of Trusted Independent Living at One Lincoln Park

For 40 years, One Lincoln Park has been a trusted name in senior living in the Dayton area, offering older adults a welcoming place to call home in the heart of Kettering. Reaching this milestone reflects four decades of consistency, care, and commitment to creating a community where residents can live independently, comfortably, and confidently.

In an industry where change is common, One Lincoln Park has stood apart through remarkable stability. With only two executive directors in 40 years and essentially the same ownership throughout its history, the community has built a foundation of trust that continues to resonate with residents, families, and staff alike. That kind of longevity is rare in senior living, and it speaks volumes about the values that have guided One Lincoln Park from the beginning.

At the same time, this milestone is also about celebrating how One Lincoln Park continues to move forward. Through meaningful renovations, fresh programming, and a renewed focus on helping residents thrive, One Lincoln Park is showing that after 40 years, it is not over the hill—it’s better than ever.

Built on Stability in a Changing Industry

For families exploring independent senior living, stability matters. It brings peace of mind to know that the community you choose is not constantly shifting ownership, changing leadership, or redefining its identity every few years. At One Lincoln Park, that consistency has been part of the story since day one.

Over the past four decades, the community has maintained a level of continuity that is uncommon in senior living. That consistency helps residents feel secure in their surroundings and confident in the people serving them every day. It also creates a stronger culture for staff, who can build long-term relationships with residents instead of navigating disruption and turnover.

That sense of reliability becomes especially meaningful for older adults who want a home they can count on. It also reassures adult children researching senior living options for their parents. One Lincoln Park’s history shows that it is not a community chasing trends or reacting to constant change. It is a long-standing senior living community that has earned trust over time and continues to reinvest in the resident experience.

For Tricia Atwood, Executive Director of One Lincoln Park, the 40th anniversary is both a celebration and a moment of reflection.

“Reaching 40 years is both a meaningful milestone and a moment of reflection. Personally, it represents a deep sense of pride in being part of a community that has stood the test of time by consistently prioritizing the well-being, dignity, and connection of those we serve.”

That sense of pride extends across the entire One Lincoln Park family. Tricia shared that this milestone is also an opportunity to honor the residents, families, and team members—past and present—who have helped shape the community into what it is today.

For One Lincoln Park, 40 years represents more than longevity. It reflects a legacy of trust, stability, and commitment. It tells the story of a community built through relationships, meaningful experiences, and a shared sense of home.

As Tricia put it, this anniversary is not only about looking back on the community’s history, but also looking ahead with purpose. One Lincoln Park remains committed to enhancing the resident experience, strengthening its sense of community, and continuing to be a place where people feel valued, supported, and at home.

A Long-Standing Community That Keeps Evolving

One Lincoln Park’s 40th anniversary is also a reminder that longevity does not mean standing still. In recent years, the community has made significant improvements to both its indoor and outdoor spaces, blending heritage with thoughtful modernization.

Outside, residents now enjoy a more engaging and welcoming campus with new landscaping, walking paths, gardens, a dog park, bocce ball, and shuffleboard. These additions support the kind of active, connected lifestyle today’s older adults are looking for. They also create more opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding neighborhood and nearby Lincoln Park.

Inside, One Lincoln Park has refreshed its ground-floor public spaces with updated finishes, lighting, wall coverings, and a newly enhanced bistro dining option. The result is a brighter, more contemporary atmosphere that still feels warm and familiar. Renovations are also continuing in phases throughout the building, with future updates planned for additional residential floors.

New residents can also personalize their apartments by selecting finishes that better fit their style and preferences, helping each space feel more like home from the very beginning. That spirit of continuous improvement reflects a larger philosophy at One Lincoln Park: to honor its history while always looking for ways to better serve current and future residents.

The People Behind the Legacy

One of the clearest signs of One Lincoln Park’s strength is the loyalty of its team. Long-tenured staff members have shaped the culture of the community, and their commitment speaks to the kind of place One Lincoln Park has been for decades.

Among them are Mike Reitz, Director of Culinary Services, and Holly Campbell-Bradley, Life Enrichment Director. Their careers reflect the steady leadership, supportive environment, and resident-first culture that define daily life at One Lincoln Park.

For Mike, who has been part of the community for 27 of its 40 years, the anniversary is a meaningful reminder of what makes One Lincoln Park so special.

“As someone who has been employed here for 27 of the 40 years, I am very proud to work for this community. The commitment of the original ownership for the entire 40 years says a lot about how much they care for OLP, its residents, and staff.”

Mike’s story is especially meaningful. He began working at the community as a young server and grew into a leadership role over the years, an example of the growth and opportunity that have long been part of the One Lincoln Park story.

When asked what has kept him at One Lincoln Park, his answer was simple: the residents.

He reflected on the privilege of serving older adults who have shaped families, communities, and the country itself through their work, service, and life experiences. For Mike, helping residents thrive socially, stay active, and feel treated with respect and dignity has been one of the most rewarding parts of his career.

He also credits the staff culture at One Lincoln Park, noting that from drivers and housekeepers to maintenance, life enrichment, and food service, the team shares the same friendly, hardworking spirit. Staff members know residents by name, understand their routines, and do what they can to brighten daily life.

Some of Mike’s favorite memories come from his early years in the dining room, where he had the chance to get to know residents over dinner each night. That same connection continues today with local high school students who work as servers and learn from residents’ stories, history, and perspective.

Holly’s long-standing role in programming and events also reflects One Lincoln Park’s dedication to resident engagement. For nearly 25 years, she has helped create the celebrations, activities, and shared experiences that make the community feel vibrant and personal year after year.

For Holly, the reason she has stayed is just as heartfelt.

“It’s the residents. You can be having a bad day and walk out of your office and have one resident say something, and it changes everything. They are kind, compassionate, and truly feel like family.”

Over the years, Holly has been part of countless meaningful moments, from engagement parties and weddings to bridal showers and everyday celebrations. As she shared, “Happy moments aren’t just for the young.”

That belief captures something essential about life at One Lincoln Park. Joy, connection, purpose, and celebration do not fade with age. In many ways, they become even more meaningful.

These are not just long careers. They are long relationships built on trust, familiarity, and genuine care. For residents, that continuity matters. Seeing familiar faces, knowing the people around you, and feeling understood helps turn a senior living community into something much more meaningful: home.

A Community Rich in Experience and Connection

Over the years, One Lincoln Park has built traditions that bring people together and make everyday life more enjoyable. Major holidays are celebrated on the actual holiday with upscale buffets for residents. Monthly birthday parties create regular moments of joy and recognition. These traditions foster a sense of belonging and mark the rhythms of the year in meaningful ways.

The community is also expanding the kinds of programming it offers. A new resident speaker series invites residents to share their own experiences, careers, and passions with others in the building. Early presentations have included stories from a former actress and a former Air Force One pilot, offering just a glimpse of the remarkable lives and perspectives that exist within the community.

In addition, One Lincoln Park has launched a cultural and community discussion series designed to explore important topics, encourage thoughtful conversation, and strengthen understanding. These programs reflect a broader commitment to lifelong learning, engagement, and purpose.

This year, the community is also embracing a new anniversary theme: Better Than Ever. The message is simple but powerful. Turning 40 does not mean being over the hill. It means having the confidence, wisdom, and momentum to keep growing. At One Lincoln Park, that philosophy extends to residents as well. The community believes aging can be a season filled with opportunity, connection, wellness, and renewed purpose.

Deep Roots in Kettering

One Lincoln Park’s story is closely tied to the surrounding Kettering community. Its location near local landmarks, neighborhoods, and institutions helps residents feel connected not only to life inside the building, but also to the broader community around them.

The campus is within walking distance of the Kettering government building, a nearby church, and Fairmont High School. Those local ties have created meaningful opportunities over the years, especially through student employment. For many young people, One Lincoln Park has been the site of a first job, often in dining services or hospitality roles. Some of those early experiences have grown into lasting careers.

That intergenerational connection is another example of what makes One Lincoln Park distinctive. It is not an isolated place. It is a well-established part of the community, one that continues to create relationships across generations and invest in people over the long term.

Trusted by Residents, Families, and Industry Leaders

One Lincoln Park’s reputation is supported not only by its long history but also by the recognition it has earned in recent years. The community has received honors from U.S. News & World Report and A Place for Mom for Best Independent Living and Best Senior Living, adding third-party validation to what residents and families have known for years.

These awards matter because they reflect real experiences. They are rooted in feedback, reviews, and the day-to-day quality of life that residents experience within the community. For prospective residents and adult children navigating the search for independent living, those distinctions provide another layer of confidence.

Still, perhaps the strongest endorsement comes from the people who know One Lincoln Park best: the residents who have chosen to live there and the staff who have chosen to stay.

For Lucille H., who moved to One Lincoln Park six years ago, the community has offered more than comfort. It has opened the door to a more rewarding chapter of life.

“When I made the decision to move to One Lincoln Park 6 years ago, I didn’t realize how rewarding the senior years could be. I feel safe and comfortable here — appreciated by the staff. It’s an enjoyable life — you make new friends, your choices of activities, and a sense of belonging to a family community — a great community!”

That sense of belonging is echoed by Nancy S., who toured multiple independent living communities before choosing One Lincoln Park. What stood out to her was not just the building, services, or amenities, but the feeling that it could truly become home.

“Of all the independent living facilities I toured before moving here, One Lincoln Park was the only one that felt as if it would become my new home, not just a place to live with other seniors.”

Nancy shared that it did not take long to feel welcomed by both staff and fellow residents. She also pointed to the many people and programs that make daily life richer, from the transportation department to social activities, outings, exercise classes, the library, and the special With Pen In Hand writing group.

Another resident, who has called One Lincoln Park home for 25 years, reflects the lasting relationships that can grow within the community over time. His connection to One Lincoln Park began years before he moved in, when he and his wife were researching senior living options for her parents. Although her parents ultimately chose to remain out of state, One Lincoln Park left a lasting impression.

Years later, after the passing of his wife, he made the decision to move to One Lincoln Park himself. He was drawn to the sense of community, the comfort of maintenance-free living, and the ability to enjoy daily life without the responsibilities of yard work or snow removal.

Over the years, he found meaningful connections in simple but important routines, especially gathering with friends for dinner each evening in the dining room. At one time, there was even a regular “men’s table,” where a group of gentlemen built friendships, shared stories, and created memories together.

His story also reflects the continuity that makes One Lincoln Park so special. He remembers knowing Mike Reitz, now Director of Culinary Services, when Mike was a young server. Watching him grow into a leadership role has been a point of pride and a reminder of the long relationships that form within the community.

While time naturally brings change, including the loss of close friends, his experience reflects the lasting impact of connection, familiarity, and finding a place that truly feels like home.

Together, these resident stories say what awards can only begin to capture: One Lincoln Park is a place where people feel safe, known, welcomed, and connected across the years.

Looking Ahead to the Next 40 Years

As One Lincoln Park celebrates this milestone, it does so with gratitude for the past and optimism for the future. The need for quality senior living will only continue to grow in the years ahead, and One Lincoln Park is well-positioned to remain a trusted, well-known option in the Dayton area.

Its legacy is already clear: 40 years of stable leadership, lasting ownership, meaningful reinvestment, and deep community roots. But the story is still being written. With continued updates, innovative programming, and a strong commitment to resident well-being, One Lincoln Park is showing what it means to age well as a community.

Forty years is an achievement worth celebrating. At One Lincoln Park, it is also a promise that the values that built this community will continue to guide it for years to come.
